The conference this year takes place Saturday, 11/20, 2010 (always the weekend before Thanksgiving).

If you would like to participate in any way (sponsor, promote, be on a panel, etc.)  email snyder@lvc.edu

Lebanon Valley College, though centrally located between Philadelphia, Baltimore, Harrisburg, and New York, is still isolated in the middle of rural PA. The Music Industry Conference was created to bring the music industry to here, Annville PA, just when the leaves are in full color and the air turns cool.

What began as a 1/2 day conference six years ago with around 80 in attendance has evolved into an all day event with as many as 200+ in attendance. Panelists have come from as far away as Colorado, Nashville, NY, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. Attendees have driven from as far away as New York and Boston.

What makes this unique from other conferences, is that it is a totally independent student initiative. It is not tied to any external organization.

The students create marketing and ad campaigns. A class, Music Industry Colloquium, serves as the central design and hosting core of the conference. All students from all majors are invited to be involved. Student organizations, MISA (Music Industry Students Association) and AES (Audio Engineering Society) serve as the primary hosts.

Each year the students must practice economic and marketing principles learned in classes. Recording majors handle all of the audio reinforcement needs.

The funds to host the conference come from the conference registration fees and ad support. LVC greatly supports the conference, but there is little financial support other than random funds from the Student Government. The conference is self-sufficient.

You’ll find that faculty only serve in supportive roles with minimal or nonexistent exposure. The faculty involved feel that students and their efforts should always be in front of faculty, not the other way around. So whether you are a novice looking to get into the industry, or a hardened veteran, it will be worth your while to attend this conference and interact with a bunch of great students.
