All students who wish to sign up for internship must first consult with Professor Snyder.
Professor Jeff Snyder : Internship Supervisor Music Recording and Music Business Programs of Lebanon Valley College. Office - Rm. 112 / Blair Music Bldg. / 717-867-6277 snyder@lvc.edu

DESCRIPTION
WHO
The Internship Program of the LVC recording and music business departments is for LVC students only.
Non-LVC students, or students in other majors should contact the student services departments of their respective departments or institutions.
CREDITS/HOURS
The hours required are 45 hours per credit, unless specified otherwise by the director of internships. This is a college policy. Credits are grouped in 3,6,9,12 credits. 12 credits is considered to be full-time. Internships can be spread over different groups. EX: 3 credits at a radio station. 9 credits at record label. Only one internship can be taken at a time though.
LENGTH
Internships must last for the length of a semester. The semesters for internships are always after your junior year. After completing MRT or MBS junior level classes, you may seek an internship. If you have transfered into one of the programs, having junior status does not automatically mean that you can sign up for an internship. It’s important that you be totally prepared to take skills with you into your internship.
FULL-TIME SPRING INTERNSHIP
A full internship (12 credits) in the spring of your senior year allows you to waive required music classes such as lessons, ensemble, recital attendance, and piano class. This allows for you to intern away from the area.
All requirements for graduation, including all classes, lessons, a recital (if required), recital attendance, and passing seven semesters (six before summer internship) of piano class (MRT majors) must be completed the semester preceding the spring internship.
Registering for any class, including ensembles, recitals, and lessons during the spring internship semester,
automatically negates the waiver regardless if the internship is 12 credits.
If you do your internship during the summer, all required classes, including recital attendance, lessons, ensemble,
and piano class (MRT) must be signed up for during the fall and spring semesters.
Spring semester internships can not be registered on-line. A registration form (on the music office counter) must be filled out and signed by your advisor. You don’t have to get your internship approved before registering, but you must get it approved before actually beginning your internship.
If you register in the LVC area, or plan to return to LVC before the end of the semester, there will be a special time for you to talk about your internship to other MBS and MRT majors. The time/place will be TBA.
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
Summer internships are allowed during the summer before the senior year.
Summer internships generally begin in May and end in August. It is a semester-length experience.
Just having enough hours to be considered a Junior does not necessarily allow for an internship.
Junior level classes in both the MRT and MBS majors must be taken and finished before beginning the internship.
Summer internships allow students to intern away from the LVC area.
Summer internships are not allowed before passing the Junior level. The Junior year is when technologies and principals that the Intern will most likely encounter are taught (ProTools, MIDI, business plans, etc.).
If you are an MRT student interested in an internship in studio engineering, you may wish to take the Music Production Classes offered the fall semester of your senior year before beginning your internship.
Differences between internships during the summer and final semester include:
-
*You must sign up for MRT 400 (Recording majors) or MBS 400 (Music Biz majors) with the Continuing Ed office.
-
*Tuition is higher through Continuing Ed (around $330 per credit).
-
*You do not have to fill out the internship papers found in the Continuing Ed office.
-
*All internship papers required for the MBS/MRT internships can be located on the internship page.
-
*Scholarships do not count towards summer internships.
-
*It may be difficult for the internship supervisor to visit the place of internship, but contact will be made with the sponsor.
-
*College insurance does not cover the intern unless the student has paid for extra insurance through the college.
-
*Applications, resume, and paperwork must be turned in by the last day of regular classes of the spring semester.
-
*Approval for the internship must be granted during the spring semester before the summer internship begins.
All other requirements of Internship must be followed, including:
* Filling out applications.
* Creating a resume.
* Getting approval.
* Keeping a log.
* Writing a paper.
* Meeting deadlines.
Senior classes for summer interns:
Students that choose to do a summer internship, regardless of the credit hours signed up for, must register for recital attendance, lessons, ensembles, and piano class during the normal fall and spring semesters.
Students interested in summer internships must read and follow the guidelines for internship as stated on the internship Web page.
Students interested in summer internships should meet with the internship supervisor and academic advisor to discuss the feasibility of doing a summer internship. It is the responsibility of the student to begin the process of contacting Professor Snyder and finding an internship.
SCHOOL BREAKS AND VACATIONS
Internships do NOT revolve around the normal school calendar concerning breaks and holidays. Interns must not expect the intern sponsor to abide by any school schedule. This includes spring break, Easter break, etc. The internship is similar to student teaching and other ‘external’ experiences for which the LVC calendar also does not apply.
Internships are only offered in the Spring and Summer. There are no internships during Christmas or other breaks.
